Dear Councillor

I am contacting you in relation to the budget proposals (cuts) for the Facilities Management service at South Ayrshire Council.

On the 13th February Jennifer Rodden, Facilities Manager – Service Lead, issued a communication to all Cleaning and Janitorial employees within this service.

This communication has information these employees that their jobs and the hours that they work are at risk if South Ayrshire’s councillors approve these plans.

This communication goes on to say that the trades unions have been informed of these proposals.

I would like to be clear with you, GMB Scotland only received the same communication after it was sent to our members.  My concern is that it implies that some kind of consultation has taken place, when in fact this is not the case.  No discussions with GMB Scotland has taken place.

These proposals will come close to destroying a service which is already in a crisis, due to low staffing levels.

GMB Scotland completely opposes these completely and utterly draconian proposals and I find it hard to comprehend that these have been put forward without a health and safety assessment being carried out.

If these proposals are accepted, then schools will become an unsafe and unhealthy environment for pupils and staff.

To also attack the working hours of the lowest paid workers at South Ayrshire Council is something that GMB Scotland will strongly oppose.

I would urge you to reject these proposals rather than sacrifice the jobs of the lowest paid employees at South Ayrshire Council.

Yours sincerely
